GENERAL CONCEPT
Based on the popular Swedish children's book, LasseMajas Detektivbyrå - The Video game is a 2D Puzzle Platformer, with a Procedurally Generated mission structure to maintain the goal of having this as a Live Service / Subscription game. In May 2021, I was assigned as Lead of the project, with the game Releasing in June 2022. Based on the discussions of the needs/wants of the game from the IP holders and studio vision, my work followed as:
Become an expert on the source material / IP.
Creating a successful pitch for a high-level structure of the game.
Documented overall Design, Features, Mini-Games, Systems, etc.
Paper Prototyped & Story boarded missions structures and levels
Set Design principles for Level Design and Level Design features.
Supervised Design and delegated design tasks to Junior designers.
A 2D PLATFORMER, AS A LIVE SERVICE
The Game was pitched to be a live service, for that, my goal was to design a game loop that:
Is Self-Sustainable, to not leave the player and end-of-content with no more content.
Not be a linear single-story-playthrough.
Be developer-friendly for future updates.
Not too design / production heavy.
Through many iterations, the result became to Procedurally Generate missions. My Goal was to create missions that feel like proper singelplayer stories that are quickly digestible, as they were meant to be shorter adventures, to fit the short-burst mobile gaming experience.
With this format, each mystery

CONCLUSION
The last LasseMaja game came out in 2006 and is beloved by fans.
I felt I had big shoes to fill.
With the ambitions and desires to have this game be a Live Service and a 2D platformer, I am really proud of what I managed to accomplish with my team.
My goal was to design a solid experience that feels like a proper singleplayer platforming game, but complex systems and loops for the game to be able to procedurally generate missions that all feel handcrafted.
This was to make sure that the game is self sustainable that it never ends and that any new piece of content added, is a new factor that can create even more possible combination of missions.
With the sheer dedication of the team, my hope that Lassemajas Detektivbyrå - The Video Game can become a new favorite for the fans!
